The Leipziger Notenspur-Initiative is a collective of private persons, societies and institutions, dedicated to making the city's musical history visible to all. Its origin lies in the idea which came to a Leipzig citizen in 1998, of initiating the laying of a marked route linking specific sites in the city centre, thereby creating a "musical" promenade through Leipzig. After several attempts, a network of interested parties was formed in 2005, steadily increasing in size and influence ever since: the Leipziger Notenspur-Initiative. In the meantime, Notenspur has become a registered trademark.
