Leipzig capital for the
Leipziger Notenspur
The bringing to life of Leipzig's music tradition - this is the aim of the Leipziger Notenspur-Initiative. The Leipzig City Council has since committed itself to the practical support of this objective.
The Leipziger Notenspur-Initiative has created three individual discovery tours, by means of which one can explore the city's unique musical treasures. Two routes are designed to be followed on foot; the third is intended to be taken by bicycle.
The Leipziger Notenspur (Leipzig Music Trail) connects the most important
homes and workplaces of Leipzig's array of eminent composers by means of a visible trail
leading through the city centre. The Trail is 5.3km (3.3miles) long and can be followed on foot.
The Leipziger Notenbogen (Leipzig Music Trip)
is a complimentary "musical" promenade through the Wilhelminian Quarter and parks lying
to the west of the city centre. Length: 5km (3.1miles).
Due to its length - 36.6km (22.7miles) - the Leipziger
Notenrad (Leipzig Music Trek) is designed to be undertaken by bike. It connects the
numerous historical sites of musical importance that lie beyond walking distance of the city
centre, including rural stretches in the outlying countryside and along the regions waterways,
as well as stops in Leipzig's suburbs.
Future plans include the creation of the Notenszene (Music Scene), providing a platform
for genres from jazz to rock, with the aim of promoting these lively elements of Leipzig,
the City of Music.
